Has anyone else seen this story?
Part of me feels like he died of shock and/or exposure. Did they give him a place to live or did they let him go back outside to his "hole in the ground and a brick shack" after they washed away his protective dirt layer?
It might be from exposure, it might be due to his old age. Its difficult to say.

The human body is capable of surviving a LOT of things. He had apparently been doing it since he was younger.
That's a long time for your body to adjust to living like that.

Yea, most definitely. No telling what he got his hands on after that. Probably would have been better off letting him live out his last days happy.
That's.... I'm kinda at a loss for words. Perhaps it's mental illness I hope 😔🙏🏿
Yea, I'm thinking something traumatic happened, like a drowning. Or maybe he just experienced major losses. His dirt acted as a buffer from the outside world. Almost the same thing with hoarders... The "stuff" is what makes you feel safe, it's your only constant and is always there...
Yeah, the article didn't go into much detail about what trauma or emotional setbacks he experienced. More questions than answers.

They should have let dude stay in his previous state. Not everyone is meant to experience what civilization is all about and how they got this man to be part of it makes me sick. Gush! He was the dirtiest man, but never got bothered.

That dirt and grime was probably part of his immune system at that point so they washed it off and exposed his skin and everything. His body was likely overworked and over stressed from it.

I’m not sure, but there are “people” who don’t wash their entire body (especially legs).
I remember there was a "debate" of sorts about this a few years ago on social media. I think I might have blocked it from my memory.

Like I stated. Personal hygiene means nothing to them. I only shower every 10 days — and I don’t care if you think I stink
Wow, I read the article and it sounds like he had skin issues. Mentioned pus in the article, so my guess is he had a ton of oils and or abscesses on his skin. The fact he lived to be 94 is impressive. For all we know, he died of old age. But maybe washing did do something to him.
I think it could be that he also wasn't around a lot of people it seems, so he probably didn't have to deal with many sicknesses. But being around people as he's being washed, could have exposed him to something.
Crazy to think someone can go most of their lives and not bathe though. I can't go more than a few days without showering. I usually shower daily or every other day.
