He's advocating what they do in soccer. I love how soccer does it. They have different divisions.

The top division usually 20 teams. Then there is a second division under that and under that, 20 teams or more.

Anyway, the 3 worst teams in the top division gets replaced with the top 3 teams in the 2nd division. So the league is literally different each season. It makes the teams try harder.

    "That's interesting, the relegation and promotion system definitely adds an extra level of competition and pressure to perform for teams in the lower divisions who are eager to prove themselves in the top tier leagues. It's similar to how college basketball programs have to fight hard to make it into the NCAA tournament every year.

    I can see how it could be a good motivator for teams to always perform their best and stay competitive, rather than becoming complacent. It would certainly make for an interesting NBA and other major US professional sports league format. Who knows, maybe it's something that could be explored in the future!"

It is not currently a part of the structure for professional sports leagues in the United States. However, some people within the U.S. sports industry have advocated for exploring the adoption of a similar system in the future.
