This is where a lack of 'real' men in the community and in most black families comes in. 70 to 80 percent (depending on what stats you want to use) of Black men grew up in a home where the woman was in charge and sees a woman being the provider.

The only thing that changes this mindset is when the man is making minimally a few hundred thousand a year all the way up to millions. The exception is Dwayne Wade, that's an anomaly (Gabrielle Union saying she splits the bill).

As an aside most men, black or white don't make enough to take care of everything...and build up retirement money. If they are married its moot, if they are dating, this all should be discussed prior to cohabitating.

Also, guys choosing the wrong women who are just tryna use him. Generally speaking, if you are a traditionalist, yeah, the guy takes care of everything. However, is the woman a traditionalist as well and taking care of dude in the same way?

I grew up with both my parents being married. My mom had some side hustles for her own spending money but my dad was the bread winner of the house. All major financial decisions were his to make and my mom was comfortable with that.

I feel like a lot of modern ladies wan the traditional man but don't want him to have the power. Like "you make the money and I spend it how I wish" type of deal. They think they can get away with this with dudes earning under 6 figures too, like wtf you smoking?
