They not only promote and encourage anti-blackness, they promote destructive behaviors for the black youth. These trends, this nonsense, everything getting pushed on social platforms wants our people out in the streets saying and doing ignorant shit for views and attention. I can't tell you how many times I have seen these trends that go viral and black teens and young adults are out there making themselves look like fools doing it. Then you have sites that make public fights and disputes amongst black groups go viral and all the whites, Hispanics, and Asians are just using it to fuel their racist agenda. Nobody wants to be left out, missing out, or left behind. Not even the most oppressed people in the world. Black people know we are the life of the party (while also the most hated and in some cases the most envied). If we left Tiktok en masse tomorrow, the app will eventually die off. We had Black Planet and Black People Meet as other social/dating networks (I wonder how these sites fell off the way they did) in the past. We had, founded, built, and ran successful civilizations long before. If we did it before we can do it again.
The main reason we are unable to own and run a massive powerhouse that is as powerful as Tiktok, Facebook, YouTube, Google, Twitter, etc. is directly due to a white supremacist system that will not allow or permit us to collectively flourish. And because of a lack of resources due to the constant economic deprivation and sabotaging of Black people and our ownership that white supremacy causes as they tell us to "work harder" and "pull yourselves up by the bootstraps."
The next time we build and create something whether it is a business, a site, a social network, a music genre, etc, we shouldn't worry about mainstream appeal, white and non-Black audiences, and mainstream dollars. PRIORITIZE BLACK FIRST AND PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY AND ASSETS BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
