Man, this world is just out of whack right now. When she was pregnant as a cadet, she was told by her superiors to have an abortion or risk losing her job. Supposedly this is an ongoing this in DC, as 9 other former and current black police officers have joined forces to file a $100 million lawsuit against the MPD.

You can read more about this below. But I hope she and the 9 other women win this.

Ok so you in a training program that is physically demanding and you get pregnant I can see why they would be salty.

They can keep there job and come back within a year? Let them complete the law portion of their certification? Bring them back for the application portion of their certification?

Yes but those academy slots are hard to come by and then who knows if she'd even be in shape after having the baby? I think it make sense to withdraw from the process if you get pregnant and it impedes your performance. Now the law enforcement agency has to keep that slot open for you because you was letting someone bust hot ones in you KNOWING you was going to go into a boot camp type environment.

It's even harder to have a qualified applicant. I've seen people with felonies try and apply to be a cop. About a year ago, a woman with multiple DUIs tried to apply. She was so happy but I didn't have the heart to tell her that she wasn't going to make it. I saw her in tears and she told me that the DUIs were 20 years ago.

This world is sick. I am all for women having a choice even though I don't agree with abortion, it is not the state's call on this but to point-blank tell a woman she needs to abort her baby or she might lose her job, wtf!!

Let’s say you take a $1M loan to produce a movie called “The Sailing of the Britanica“. It’s a movie about star-crossed lovers, finding their passion while navigating class politics aboard a luxury ocean liner. You tell the bank that the movie launches a year and a half from receipt of funds and you’ll pay it back by year 2. You have the perfect female star, her name is Bernadette Fihverr but half way through the shoot her stomach enlargens. Its starting to cause continuity issues because in some scenes her stomach is big and others it’s not. You have casting go talk to her and she tells them she’s 4 months pregnant.

You’re on the hook for $1M that you have to pay back by year 2. If you wait 6 months til the baby is born and for her to get back in shape you will be 6+ months passed the date you told the bank. You can either default on the loan, pay the loan payments out of pocket, or fire her and find another actress…are you going to ruin your finances for someone who got pregnant during your shoot? Who is the bad guy, you for firing her or her for getting pregnant knowing she had an obligation to fulfill?

Just because pregnancy is natural doesn’t mean it’s a get out of jail free card. If you get pregnant at the wrong time that’s on YOU! People can’t sit around waiting on you to get through an unexpected pregnancy if money and resources on the line.

In the story in the OP I’m sure race was involved but still why you letting someone shoot hot ones in you when you know you going to the academy? Sounds like bad judgment to me.

Oh, I am fully aware of that but the notion of telling a woman she needs to have an abortion or else crosses the line. They could have said that in a very different way. That is what I have a problem with.

I am all for women having accountability. Like if I worked at a law firm and was getting ready to accept a huge raise but wound up pregnant, do you think they would still be obligated to give me that raise and higher position? Hell no. I would be taking time off. They would be paying me while on leave as well as hiring a temp fill in which are very hard to find. Who the heck is going to wanna work for a company for only 3 to 6 months only to just be kicked out the door when I feel ready to come back?

Ok I agree with this.

They could have simply said “We will have to remove you from the Academy roster until you’re able to successfully complete the duties required”.

The abortion and pregnancy is none of their business but she is Black and a Woman and so they probably feel like they could talk to her however they want.

Exactly! There are better ways to handle this and I doubt they would have been so blunt and inconsiderate if she was white. I never hear stories like that. I know some of them do treat ALL women as lesser-thans which is messed up but it seems like black women take the bulk of it.
