NAARC sends letter to California Governor - Sign AB-2296

Urges Gov. Newsom to Sign California’s AB-2296 Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans
    reparationscomm.org

Veto Urged for Bill Extending CA Reparations Task Force – California Globe

    californiaglobe.com
Groups that favor reparations for African-Americans in California, such as the Coalition for a Just and Equitable California, sent a letter to Gavin Newsom earlier this week urging him not to sign an upcoming bill that would extend the life of the task force from an end date of 2023 to an end date of 2024.

Assembly Bill 2296, authored by Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D-Los Angeles), would specifically remove set terms of office for task force members and would instead remove them whenever the appointing authority seems fit. The Task Force itself would also be allowed to set up subcommittees and advisory bodies to help complete their intended duties. Another year would also be given to allow more time to finish up their respective reports, with a revised Task Force end date of July 1, 2024.

If that would have went down Reggie Jones Sawyer would have had members kicked off and then would have removed the lineage standard. I’m so glad it was vetoed.

Me too. The lineage standard is one of the most crucial components to our reparations fight. I saw a snippet of the CA task force meeting that showed a Hatian woman speaking to the panel and trying to stake her claim for FBA reparations.
Our African, Caribbean, & European cousins can use our fight as a blueprint, but they should have no rights to any reparations payments owed to the descendants of American chattel slavery.

Here is the huge difference between the reparations movements in America, the Caribbean (I'll use former British colonies and the French) and Africa. The only thing all three areas have in common is they are all valid claims.

That's where the similarities end. FBAs are pursuing reparations for justice. Purely for that. It's owed, and that's that. The Caribbean via Caricom and Africa are pursuing it because they are broke. They sold off, squandered, any thing of value they had. Their claims are legitimate, but they see it as a come up only. I can pretty much guarantee that they will have zero direct payments to the people. Their leaders will take the bag and spend some of it on some bullsh*t and do what they have always done, line their pockets and mismanage what is left over.

I've looked at the Caricom reparations verbiage to some extent. Vague, nothing too specific. They want apologies, and other emotionally stroking bullshit. Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad are all about 90% black, give or take. They have Indians, Chinese, others. There is zero mention of lineage. They gonna include non descendants of slaves, mark my words.

The Africans aren't gonna want to share any direct payments between tribes, so they will do what they did with IMF and World Bank loans. Some of it will end up swiss bank accounts and the rest will go to China and other countries for a variety of reasons. Paying the Chinese to build infrastructure projects, paying IMF and World bank loans. The monies they get will go right back to white people.

Also, both areas have literally millions of people who were either born there and left permanently or born in America, UK or Canada but both parents are from the same countries. Zero mention if they are related. Jamaica for example literally has more Jamaicans outside the island than inside if you count those born overseas whose parents were both born in Jamaica. You think Caricom gonna include them n*ggas? haha....Nigeria, Ghana and the rest ain't gonna give Joy Reid, Obama, and any other overseas descendants of Africa anything.

As far as the reparations movement in Cali, the only reasons I can think of that non FBAs are on the panel are: 1. White folks want people on there who they know will sell out FBAs hence the non FBAs and 2. They will make every attempt to expand the recipients to non FBAs.

The State of California won't admit that it was the grassroots but we know that the governor felt the pressure. Newsom would have a Black voter problem if he let that bill go by.

More people from the grassroots are speaking up and applying pressure. We should get involved in all of these in order to get it right.

I’m happy the California family hit the streets and let them know to leave the Task Force alone.

Don't celebrate just yet. This could very well be an act to try and get a presidential win. He doesn't give a shit about us. He plans on running for president though. Just like Biden pardoning weed possession. If you look at the way it was worded, it will only release maybe 100 or 200 people NATIONWIDE. The politicians play games. I'll keep an eye on this though. I don't qualify either way being a child of immigrants.
