You know how all these companies change their social profiles around during certain months, like black history month, or pride month (LGBT History Month), etc. They always change things around for just that month. To me, all it looks like is a company trying to look good. They rarely do anything to help and in the end, it just makes them look like a more respectful company. But, once that month ends, they're back to normal, doing their usual thing.

Of course these companies don't care about black history month or pride month, or any month about special causes. I just find it weird when they come out in support, but then change back to their old ways right after the month ends.

What do you think about this? Do these companies just do it to look good? Or, do you think they're really out there trying to help?

It's all about the money, you'd probably do the same if you owned a big company.

The reason they do this, is to look good. Simple as that. They don't actually care for the causes they support, because once the day after that month is up, they're back to being their corporate selves. I look at Amazon and other similar places, because they do the same thing. Change their page/site for the month and then move on when it's over.

I'm sure some of them donate to the cause, and help in some ways, but why not promote that year round? Why can't you have systems in place to donate to these causes all year long? If they don't they should really consider that. As I would consider that a good thing on their part.

It's about the time and place that we find ourselves in, plus the politics of the powerful.
Let me explain. The Black Panther Party was started in Alabama but they gained their footing in Oakland. The gay movement started in San Francisco on Haight and Ashbury Street. The Hispanics and their activism in the Delano Grape Strike was in California.

Now, today, look at all the powerful tech companies coming out of Silicon Valley with their own brand of digital activism. The concept of words being violence and safe spaces becoming necessary, are at the forefront of how we share ideas on and offline. So, naturally when one company sees another doing something that can bring them more cash, they are like domino falling.

Yeah exactly. They could really care less about what the cause is. It's just on their monthly schedule to change their profile pictures and that's it.

Even worse when the company starts to produce a bunch of products that are black designed or covered in rainbows for the month. So great, now that it's black history month I can just start shelling money to your company because you all of the sudden "care".

That's usually the case. Companies will have BLM all over their websites, but upper mgmt looks like a MAGA rally.

Oh for sure. So many of these companies have nothing but white men and women in power. But mostly white men. And once that month is over, they go back to their normal, usual ways.

Yup, exactly. I bet Microsoft has like a very small amount of black employees working for them, and none are probably in the leadership position.

This is social lip service. Nothing more. Nothing less. I am talking about these companies that don't give a flying flipper about us.

They definitely are doing it to help the company image out. Companies that really care will give their money. In other words, they will put their money where their mouth is at and they won't try to control the company. They will see if the company is putting the money to good use.

Most definitely. Except I can't fake being down for LGBT. But I would not publicly bash them either.

The Black ones are likely tokens. See... we hired some Black folks. We are not racist.

I'm so "excited" at the infinitesimal number of Black folks. Smh. Same story. Different book. They have their 2 little Black people so their quota can be met.

Yep. But even if they had a lot of Black folks there, I would need to check to see if the Black leaders are coons and coonnettes. Otherwise, we would be excited about symbolism.

Yep. Now buy our products. That's how they feel. Come buy from us. We gave you support by putting BLM up on the social media pages. That's what they would say.
