The Black church used to be the nerve center of our community.We used the church to plan, organize, and strategize our collective moves during the Civil Rights Movement. The church was where our brothers and sisters went when they were hungry and hopeless for help. We worshipped God together in church. We made new friends in church, and many of those friends became family. Some of our most prolific singers got their soulful sounds in the Black chuch.Somewhere along the way, the church (and God) lost favor with younger Black people, maybe that was by design?
