A few quotes from the clip:

"I've been told by people i look up to that i can't identify and i don't belong"

"Sometimes some of my blackest friends can be just as cruel on the other end by making you feel excluded"

"I don't feel celebrated as a black artist . I dont feel like someone says wow a black artist is the artist of the decade... and i associate myself as a black man"

I don’t really listen to Drake’s music and I can’t discount what he’s saying but I think it’s cultural more than racial. I would guess that people see him as a Canadian nigga and so that rejection he is feeling is cats not accepting him as Black American. I may be wrong because I don’t listen to his music or follow him. But I never see him as yo that’s a Black man I just see him as Drake.

As someone who is mixed, I kind of understand where Drake is coming from but when it comes down to a lot of mixed Black people and their insecurities about what race they 'belong to' they always seem to find a way to shit on their Black side instead of attacking their actual white oppressors for small, petty, emotional reasons. That's what the Dominant Society does, they want to keep promoting the divide and conquer and make sure that they aren't seen as the cause of the problem and sadly, a lot of mixed Black people end up falling for it constantly.

I just generally don't judge celebrities like that unless they do something that warrants.

Example: Jesse Williams is mixed. After he gave that BET awards speech though we can safely say he is down with the culture.
Kanye West by his MAGA antics and anti-black statements we can safely say he is not down with the black community. Same is true with people like Candace Owens, Jesse Lee Peterson, and Brandon Tatum. These people are what I call anti black racist apologists. They make excuse for racism and say it doesn't exist. They will insult and put down the black victim of a police shooting. They basically are paid to say what the white media pundits want to say but can't. So they instead play clips of them saying it.

Other examples are those celebrities that interject themselves into politics. Usually on behalf of the get out and vote agenda. They paint themselves as not being for the Democrats but that they just want black people to vote. All the while knowing that close to 90% of black people will vote Democrat. They are vote blue no matter who but just don't say it. Example include; P Diddy, Killer Mike, Jay-Z, and Young Jeezy!

From what I am aware Drake doesn't fall into any of those categories so I don't really care about his "blackness". If he makes good music I'll buy it and listen. If not then I won't. That's about as far as I care with celebrities. Unless they do or say something that warrants judgement then we shouldn't judge them. We don't know these people personally.

I'm Half-White too and you just spoke my life. My dad is Black and he always told me that I was Black and to be proud of it because the other side would never see me as White. It ended up truer than I was ready to accept and around 16 I fully accepted that I was Black and that's how my White side saw me. I had about a 2 year span where I hated my Black side because they would talk shit but I was really just angry that my White side all but rejected me. Once I hit 8th grade and started learning how to roast I felt fully accepted by my Black side. At that point I stopped being "beige nigga" to "nigga" over a summer break.

This was never much of an issue a generation ago. The black community had a fair number of blacks mixed. Mostly native American but also white. White people treated any mixture with Black as Black.

A modern trick they did with mixed Blacks, only mixed with White is that they are different. Biracial is a new term. You were Black in our grandparents time if you were half white. We also have terms like 'Blasian' which was new. There were 100s of half Black, Half Korean babies from the Korean war. The ones in America in the Black areas were black, treated as Black. Yes, there were the occasional 'What you mixed with?' but you were Black.

So this whole new Biracial designation that basically did this to half white Blacks. White people said 'You are different than Blacks, you have some of us in you but we are never going to accept but you will try your whole life to be accepted and that will 1. make you do whatever you can to be accepted by us including voting Republican, etc, and 2. you will reject and hate the black community because they kept you (by blood) from being fully accepted.

It's working like a charm. I have a few older relatives who are half white, half Asian and they were never ever ambiguous about being Black.

Case in point. Frederick Douglas and Bob Marley both had white fathers. No one has ever, ever referred to them as anything but Black. Even white people.

....and no one, no White person or Black person, has asked why don't we change history books to call Frederick Douglas biracial either. Why not? Ask yourself.

I like to think of this phenomenon as it being the circumstances of time, Back then, the one drop rule was heavily forced on Black people in the Americas, and it made mixed race individuals Black racially even if they we're mixed, but now, the one drop rule is losing it's steam like it used to have, and people are noticing mixed people as being mixed, no matter if they had one Black parent.

Fredrick Douglas and Bob Marley is considered Black because It was a different time back then, and now we have different problems and circumstances, and Black peoples thoughts are evolving. Noticing mixed people as being mixed isn't even a bad thing either, I mean are they not? that would be lying

Our female Ancestors were raped by slave owners & their so called "SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY" associates!
Our male Ancestors were beaten, castrated & killed by them also. The wives of the slave owners forced male slaves to sexually accommodate them & still cried rape, when they were caught in the act!
Sure, we all may have their tainted blood in us, but it's basically what side you claim, how you move & what you do!

Half black and half white can't claim white. White people won't allow it. The only way is if they don't know and can't tell.

    Case in point:
The actor from Prison Break, the drummer Slash, and a few others who pass. No one knew they were Black on the rise up.

Technically ALL of us are mixed. Any DNA / Ancestry test will show we all have European blood. It's just a matter of how much.

Meghan Markle could pass for 'ethnic' white, she never claimed any blackness publicly, white people saw her as Black, and she only claimed any Blackness after the royal family and British people reminded her.

The one drop rule is still in effect.

Obama has a white mother and was never called the first 'Biracial' President. Everyone called him the first Black president.

Halle Berry, and a host of others considered Black. She has a white mother and was proclaimed the 'first Black woman' to win an Oscar since Hattie McDaniel.

And the point still remains about Frederick Douglas. He's regarded as Black still. Queen Charlotte of England in British history, who didn't look Black, Black people still cling onto calling her Black.

Again, NOTHING has changed in white people's minds. They changed in mixed race people's minds by holding out a carrot for possible white inclusion and to some black people. I've never considered mixed anything other than black, but some blacks will considered the same mixed person something other than black.

We aren't all united on what is black anymore, by design. I've never, ever, ever seen a clearly or knowingly mixed child in school. work, where ever these days or growing up or anywhere, be fully accepted as white by white people. Ever. Maybe others have, I've yet to see it.

The one drop rule exists, white supremacy has played a game with it as I mentioned in a previous post.

Drake is Black. had he grown up in Harlem, Compton, Englewood (Chicago), people wouldn't question it.

We aren't sure Shawn King is Black and he's accepted as Black because of his history of fighting for Black people.

He was also talking about that America isn't as racist as other places bullsh*t.
    This is utter bullsh*t.

If you fly first class on an interntaional trip the white man next you will always, always, always try to strike up a conversation to ask you what you do. And if its not athlete or entertainer he's mad shook. And he has 2 questions he wants answered and he'll act any kinda fake way he can
    1. How do I learn how to duplicate what you did
    2. We gotta stop n*ggers from moving up this way.

That's it. I have used my travel points to upgrade and white men especially will always try to strike up a convo that will lead to what I do but don't ask the other white man on the other side of him.

They don't want to see us up there.

No we are not all mixed, admixture doesn't make someone mixed race. That's like saying a person that's 90 percent white and has some asian dna from admixture way down the line is mixed race, but like you had said, it's all the matter on how much of the percentage of each parts of your dna you have.

The point is we all have white blood. I've yet to find any black person I know who has had an ancestry test that didn't have white blood.

For purposes of this discussion/thread, its 50% white. They are still black. Tiger Woods is less than 50% black. His mother has zero and his dad is half at best. He never identified as Black but white people never accepted his anything but, not even 'mixed' because having 'noticable' black blood in 'their' sport they had to racial-signal to whites that this is a problem. The media was calling them the first black man to win the US Open.

I personally think this 'mixed race' / 'biracial' designation is not good. I'd rather we go old school and leave no ambiguity. We are building a racial buffer class doing that and that is never a good thing.

Maybe the OGs see something in him that's not genuine. His mom is the J folks I heard. He is Black by conversion. Yeah, he makes some good hits, is featured, and gets good features, but there is something about Drake that ain't right and I can't put my finger on it. He cries too much about being accepted, a problem many fair-skinned biracial kids with white moms who can't pass complain about as adults. Don't blame us for not fitting in, he should blame his parents. If you didn't grow up Black, it's hard to not be seen as other when you're around us. These folks always do or say something that lets you know that white side was ruling and they aren't accepted by the pilgrims so here they come later in life trying to be grafted in.

Side topic, but Andrew Tate is a perfect example of this biracial designation being a bad thing.
He can walk around casually anywhere in America and be initially accepted as white because of a. how he looks and b. his British accent.

Unless he tells you he's half white white people don't know. That being said I guarantee you 100% he's heard white people in private say all kinds of N bombs. He's capping about racism when he minimizes it.
Every honest white person I've known and I could count them on one hand, said that the N bomb is ALWAYS said at some point in every white conversation if it goes on long enough.

And he sounds like a Brad and avoids Black issues like a Black-integrated kid. Just say I didn't grow up around Black people and folks know. You can't hide among us. I just can't explain it. It's not just a color issue, his issue is conflated with class. He's boule sounds like to me.

Black people (specifically in America) are the most accepting people of any ethnic or racial group in America.

Drake has always been accepted as black by black music fans. I've never, ever heard him referred to as biracial by black people, even though he's not only half white, but half Jewish and from a white area in Canada. Canada!

His friends are effing with him to some extent. If you are down, eff with us heavy, you get pretty much full access to the black community:
    * DJ Khaled
    * Fat Joe till recently. He drops n bombs in all his songs. The whole FBA movement has shifted this paradigm.
    * MC Serch from that old school rap group 3rd Base
....and many others. None of them got a drop of black blood (unless we wanna get technical about Arabs and Puerto Ricans but for purposes of this thread lets say no)
but at one time or currently accepted as one of our own.

No other group in America does that on a wide scale.

He had the nerve to throw shade and refer to a Black artist's music as "mysterious music." Just straight scorned bitch energy. I bet if it was an unknown white or other artist who took "his" spot he wouldn't have been as dismissive and shady.

That's it right there. The fact that his white mammy let him do that says all you need to know about how he grew up and why he is messed up today. I kept my kids home from school when the teachers was dragging our kids to cotton plantations for field trips, if somebody wanted my kid to put on Black face I'd go and beat their ass. Again, a lot of biracial people who are mixed with white tend to let the white side influence their kids' upbringing, a dominance of sorts. Bedroom colonizing is complicated when one of the parents is white or white adjacent. They try to graft their Black kids into whiteness and it never works out. They withhold the kid from Blackness a little too long and then before you know it, the kid are at school with a bunch of white kids being made out of a fool.

I hate it for him, but it's not our problem that he doesn't fit in. It's not our fault his mom chose to raise him as white and he didn't fit in. I know plenty of light-skinned Black men who you can tell are Blackitty Black Black. Skin tone has nothing to do with the heart and Black state of mind. People thing being Black is limited to our culture. You can put on clothes, steal or appropriate the culture (because he got skin and religious connects), and go forward. Drake wouldn't be where he is today if it wasn't for his mom's white skin and her Jewish heritage, the latter moreso than the former, Period.

In their eyes, all successful Black people must be like this:

If you are not degrading and embarrassing yourself, entertaining them, being enslaved and exploited by them, or catering to them and their "needs" then you are of no use to them, which makes them even more resentful, uncomfortable and in some cases even envious. Whenever they feel threatened by you or negative about you, they react by way of violence, passive aggression, retaliation, and worse as history and the present day shows.

Bruh facts I have always gotten this in first class. I have status with Delta too so I board first and get treated really well. It never fails, they are nosey AF and a lot of the times you can see them keep looking at you. When they finally muster up the courage they ask what you doing for a living. It’s usually when I take my headphones off to ask for another Prosecco and then they strike.

“Hey so what brings you to Dallas?”

Then once they get the info they no longer want to talk to you. Last month I was in Scottsdale, AZ and as I was leaving my hotel room the staff were talking to me and the lady working the bar was talking about how she wants to see me again and so some white lady old as dirt stops me and asks if I’m an athlete. I said no and she was basically like:

Not to get off topic, but you know how they say "ALL NIGGAZ LOOK ALIKE"?
Well, back in the day Caspers thought my Dad was James Brown & he actually danced just like him. 😁
They'd walk up to him, "Heyyyy, you're James Brown, aren't you"?
He answer by saying, " You tell me" & would starting dancing, twirling & doing the splits. They'd start throwing all kinds of money at him.
I was embarrassed & angry. He'd say, "Don't be mad". "They take our money, take it back"! 🤔

I f*ck them up by saying one of a few things: 'I'm semi retired' or 'I'm an investor'
I try to keep things one buck, just my nature, I keep it one buck on here or I hope that's how I'm known by what I write. If its black folks, fam, I keep it one buck. If its white boys/white people, then I am 'strategic' and do what they do 'strategic lying when necessary

Around the fellas , fam, I sound like any other brotha. But I can obviously be a nerd and sound like a nerd and not tryna brag at all, can speak on all kinds of subjects, with my 'office' voice so they don't think its cap when I say semi retired or investor. They get shook because I look way too young to be 'semi retired' and I can sound intelligent enough to pull off 'investor'.

End result is they are mad shook. Also, I've never had a white boy who was on to something big give me enough game to do well at it. They keep that sh*t close to the vest when it comes to us. They'll tell their frat brothers from college, any other white boy except you.

Or worse yet, they try to talk you out of successful sh*t you are into or sh*t on it. I do some forex trading. Not as a living but I got a background in finance and its not enough to live on, just to do. If there is no discernable opportunities or trading I won't trade, for days, weeks or months. Anyway, one white guy I worked with who was talking money, etc and I mentioned it said "I've never met anyone who made money doing that". Just to f*ck with him I showed him my last month of trading and I happened to be trading fairly regularly then and for the next 2 months end of the week, showed him on my phone app I was making profits. Made him pissed. 'Job accomplished'.

Anyway, as Tariq used to say "...but I digress"

One of the sad byproducts of black kids who are half white and this current labeling of them as 'biracial' and them thinking they are different than Blacks is what happens at school in white school districts.

The guys get teased. In order to fit in, I've heard they let their so called white friends say n*gger around them and call them that. And they do that fake, accepting , beta laugh it off. Very common.

Worse for the girls. Many half white boys will just keep to themselves than have their dignity compromised. Depends on who they are as a person and how their parents are.

Girls, mentally want to feel accepted and fit in more than boys. Girls typically have a stronger need for acceptance at those ages. I've started at a black school and finished at a different HS in the suburbs (better for college) and what I've seen and heard as well from others is that many of these 'biracial' girls will let the white boys run through them in order to be accepted. Not all but it happens way too much. They only date white boys, will never date black boys at all. And white boys can sense some girl who is desperate for acceptance and they will exploit it. Again, this is something I've seen a lot and it seems especially if mom is white and a single mom. Those tend to want white acceptance the most. No black parent to give them some stronger sense of self. My boy from Chicago knew a biracial girl from her school that started with a white boy friend, after he smashsed as much as he wanted, he quit her, then other white boys started 'dating' her. It got to the point the white boys on the football team were running trains on her.

Eventually no one wanted to f*ck with her openly, just treat her as a jump off, late night hook up on weekends, at the after game party, etc. He said she eventually left the city moved, scrubbed all her social media of her and white boys and white people and started dating brothers only.

Also, back in the day, you didn't see black child suicides. It was never a thing. Today there are an unprecedented amount of black kids committing suicide and a number of them are biracials who can't fit in and are teased mercilessly and bullied by racist classmates.

Nothing wrong with embracing both sides you are from but anything that makes you 1. ashamed or angry at your black side. 2. Makes you compromise your integrity and dignity to be accepted by white folks by saying or doing things that are counter productive and 3. f*cks with your self worth

is never, ever good. I met one brother from Toronto who didn't know Drake but since he's basically the only mega Black celeb in town (other than Vince Carter) in town, you hear everything about him. The reason why he probably was teased like that was from what my boy said who grew up hood Toronto (yeah they got a hood) was that he was culturally suburban white and had to 'learn' to be black late in life. Obama went through this as well. He grew up with next to no black people in Hawaii and in college he hung with the international students. It wasn't till at either Colombia University or Harvard he started being Black and afterwards instead of getting literally any job he wanted being Harvard Law Review editor, he went to Chicago to be a professor and community organizer. He adopted his black heritage late. Also, he had two choices to wifey, Michelle and this white girl and he went with Michelle because he was looking towards politics and it was a better look. His way of talking and giving speeches with that church cadence he learned from Reverend Wright's church in Chicago.

With this interview alone, I can kind of tell that Drake seems resentful of bring half-Black to a degree by the way he's subtly throwing shade at the Black people who he feels didn't embrace him enough because he's mixed and light-skinned (allegedly). He seems to feel just as "rejected" and "out of place" as many of these Black misfits, Black nerds, Black LGBTQ people, and other "outcasts" claim to. Imagine if Drake was 100% white and at least 50% ethnically white Jewish. I doubt he would be a rapper. He'd probably be a rabbi or some well-to-do NYC yuppie.

You mentioned that Shaun King is accepted being that he is mixed allegedly so how did this become about Larry Elder?? The discussion is about Drake again he is NOT black..

    Hi,
I'm using an analogy. It was said 'Drake isn't Black'. There are half white people who are accepted as black (Halle Berry, Obama, Meghan Markle despite her not wanting to be identified as such her whole life, etc), so his being half white can't be a definition of what is black.
I used Elder as a person who is 100% racially black but not deemed 'Black' by many.

I contend Drake has been accepted by Black masses as Black. I've never heard of him being referred to as anything else but 'Black'...till now. He is called soft or whatever but so are a lot of black musical artists.

Making the distinction as well as looking for a definition of why he's not seen as black and other biracials are?

Until Drake himself brought it up I've never, ever seen Blacks question his blackness. His street cred has been questioned but so as many rappers. That is different. For some your street cred says how Black you are. But straight up race qualification? Nah. When we say Larry Elder ain't black it's behavior not his race and that is how Drake was questioned in the past.
He has always been seen as a black artist.

Never been a fan of his. Don't like his voice. He had sick beats but that was about it. Dude was too dull for me.

Also, he is half Jewish. What did he expect people would think? lol
