Gay men with a lot of queerness are notorious for getting into cat fights with women over men. This is just catty behavior. This is something you would see a woman do to another woman. It is not a big deal. People like to make something out of nothing. I would have assumed her breath was stanking if anything. He probably was just being polite though. He just didn't want her breathing down his neck.
