God this.I live in Oakland and the “hater energy” you feel here is palpable. Especially in the gentrified areas but really it permeates everywhere. They are real passive aggressive about their racism but you can sense they don’t like your black ass. Down the street most of the homeless living in tents are black.Later came to find out via the data that Oakland is actually one of the top 5 most segregated cities in the Bay Area (which is already segregated). “Liberal” is just a symbolic label whites like to give themselves for believing in trite causes. Nothing to do with helping or empowering black folk at all.Honestly ready to move on up outta here. The idea this is a west coast “black Mecca” is so false it’s too silly to even entertain.
