It would take at least 5-10 million at a bare minimum for me to live in NYC, LA or SF, hell even Chicago. And I'd need something to bring me there.

I know a guy who took a 200k a year salary to a gig near Washington Heights and after working out the math, taxes, etc, he and his wife moved to north New Jersey and commuted. This is not even counting her salary, master's degree so she'd make decent money.

Now he's looking for a gig in another city. Just not worth it for him. He's from the south so its not like he's in love with NYC or anything.

So many folks want an infinite number of things to do and will pay those super duper high prices.

No. It's getting like this in some areas of LA and they're not worth it. Some of the new builds out here use very cheap materials from faucet and door knobs, hand rails, and etc. In addition, since they want to be cheap and build as many as possible they have those tiny backyards, your neighbor can look right throw your window and look into your house, and they build up like this one. So you have a bunch of stairs to climb every single day which sucks as you age.

I'm a fan of ranch style houses which is not the most efficient usage of space but the open floor plan and the high ceilings are unbeatable. When you walk into a modern ranch style house it's breath-taking.

I've always had a thing for Leimert Park in LA. They have some beautiful old homes with spanish tile. The blacks who have money but want to stay close to the black community often live in Windsor HIlls or Baldwin Hills which was once called the black Beverly Hils.

In NYC, and I'm not sure if its still a very expensive area, there is an area in Harlem called Strivers Row and Sugar Hill. The city's black doctors, engineers, dentists and the Harlem Renaissance types back in the day stayed there. Fantastic old brownstones, some with marble steps, most with old hardwood floors and a few with those circular libraries. Moms used to stay in Harlem and I saw some of them on travels. I always dreamed of staying there. In the crack era, some of these types of homes were going for $1 from the city if you stay in and renovate them. Baltimore has a program like that and Philly as well.

Back to LA. A lot of folks don't know that Compton used to be white. I've seen some really nice homes around there. People didn't talk about it because they liked to push the negative since the NWA days. Compton has some great looking homes. I dated a LB chick once and didn't realize just how popping Long Beach was. Some really, really nice areas. Some nearby spots like Signal Hill, etc as well.

We've got some $300,000 homes right down the street & they're truly NOT worth that price!
Small house, small front & backyards, right next door to each other, from the beginning of the block to the end.

I want a mansion & there's NO NEXT-DOOR NEIGHBORS, unless they're successful Black people who are B1, not afraid to knuckle up & efficient with their tools!

Yep. $300,000 in bigger areas or in more affluent areas is nothing. It is getting to a point now in many other places where $300,000 still won't get a mansion.

It's a mini house, the affordable version. Half the size, but costs more.

I know one thing. I have thought about living in a mini house if I lived in certain towns, but then again I want a nice sized house. I see why folks have the affordable version since prices keep rising on everything in stores.
