Acho has spoken about his upbringing on air before. He was born in the U.S. to Nigerian parents. He went to elementary, high school, and college here, but only saw Black Americans from a distance. He grew up in Texas, but he didn't grow up in our culture. He grew up eating egusi soup and jollof, not our food. His parents probably told him from a very young age not to associate with akata.
