Why don't Black people produce Phonk music anymore? I hate that when Black people create a genre of music and then just stop producing it alltogether in turn for what's currently popular in the media, then we let other racial groups take over our genres, and then they start claiming that they've created it; I hate it so much. We need to utilize all of the musc genres we've created thus far.

I think we’ve produced a generation of keyboard beats musicians and so that whole style of music is damn near dead in our culture. If it is a style that doesn’t lend well to one dude in front of FL Studio then the youth ain’t really gravitating towards it. You also have exposure, the marketing machines don’t market black funk artists. People make what there is a lane for.

You're absolutely correct, although I'm not talking about "Funk", but I'm talking about "Phonk" music; which is a totally different genre than Funk, and you can create Phonk music easily through FL studio, so I don't understand why it has died for Black people. Phonk music derived from oldschool Memphis rap beats including Dark tones, 808 cowbells, and hard hitting drums most of the time. Heres an example:

And sadly now Phonk music is heavely influenced and mass produced by Russians, and is now associated mostly with them. Heres a video that compiles the orgins of Phonk music:

These beats are easily created in FL studio or any DAW at that matter, but I guess this type of instrumental music doesn't capture the youth

I didn’t really see phonk catch on widely and most Black people wouldn’t even know what it is. Most Black people over 30 probably wouldn’t know what it was.

It’s a different genre than Techno though, but it does have correlation though because modern Black American music is heavily related between each other so some genres could sound like other genres. But this genre is more heavier than techno, and mostly utilize 808 cowbells with heavy bass drums, and a lot of the times incorporate distorted vocal samples; that’s how you can distinguish Phonk from Techno.

At 26:00 I feel is a great example of the music and it really sounds like a blend of techno and hip hop and it sounds dope AF. It’s sad that it’s been co-opt’d.

Jackpot!!! That is the ONLY genre of music I know to pop a elderly neighbor's ear drum, who has since past. He treated my grandparents very well and I cut his lawn and snow removal when his health started to fail.

We would call that techno here in the UK. Its influenced by techno in mainland Europe, specifically Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. Cant say that I've heard of Phonk tho.

This isn't at all influenced by any European country lmao, this is mostly derived from rap (Specifically Memphis rap) which has developed here in America, and techno was pioneered by Detroit also, it's not known who started to create techno music first.

Why don't more black people play instruments? We can ask a lot of questions surrounding music. It is just easier, cheaper, and faster to earn when you do your music on a computer. Younger generations, including my own, hardly know what real music is anymore. If we want to see this come back, we need to establish a culture for it.

There is a lot of great music out there though but it is riddled with fake, fast, and easy tracks that people rinse and repeat.

Good "black" music teachers are very hard to find. McKenzie High had one of the best teachers (Mr. Brown) who had total soul and that's how he taught, from the heart not just for a check. #McKenzieSTAGS

What cracks me up is they think they came up with everything. Never thinking that we were once 16 as well, so we know ALL the tricks! 🤣

To clarify, the techno in the UK is influenced by Europe. A lot of comes from Europe, and the UK produces too. Its a mix.

We had 3 music teachers in my high school. Two were white women and one was a black man. He by far knew the most about music and actually inspired students to become passionate about music and learning instruments. I was only in high school for one year where he was teaching. He ended up taking a job at a private school because it paid 3 times the amount so I could not blame him but that is what happens. All the good teachers take higher-paying jobs in private schools and public schools have teachers who are just doing it to make ends meet and it shows.

There are a lot of artists out there who do and seldom get high-level recognition so we wouldn't even know they existed without a bit of digging. I feel like there should be a social platform just for artists so people can discover and interact with lesser-known artists. Remember what Myspace turned into? It was for music. Something like that but better and more like Twitter - easy, fast, and open so people can find the kinds of music they are into and we can better share real artists.
