The US is supposedly attempting to do a prisoner swap to bring Griner back home, but so far I haven't heard a whole lot on that. She got 9 years for drug possession. She is stuck in Russia for the foreseeable future. I could see Russia keeping her there as long as possible before they agree to a prisoner swap.

Do you think the US will be able to get her out? I guess Russia is taking their sweet old time in cooperating, so who knows what is going to happen at this point.

The article below discusses that they're still working to get her out, but they have to wait for some appeal stuff in the courts to go down first before they entertain the idea of a prisoner swap.

I feel like they are dragging it out on purpose. They could get her back sooner but they wanna make it about politics and getting votes. This is the kind of shit I am sick of.

And I will just say it. No offense to Brittney but if we do get her back, we need to release every man and woman in prison in the US over weed. Assuming they were not selling to minors. There is no reason Brittney should be given special privileges for being famous/rich. Everyone in prison down to minor weed charges needs to be let go.

And yes, I second this 100%. If they are going to get her out of Russia, then they should take everyone out of jail who had drug charges on them. It's messed up that we still have countless people in jail because of drugs, yet weed is now legal in many states. Yet people who got caught for having weed or selling it, are still probably rotting away in prison for said crimes.

But we know they won't change things.

Yes. I think it's funny that people believe she's doing 9 years. She was never ever ever going to do 9 years. Russia just wants her to be an American convicted felon for the record and then they'll do a prisoner swap

I have a possible guess. The Dems will make a deal for her to come back like a week or 2 before the elections in November.

Yup it’s all a huge political game. Brittany’s lackadaisical behavior made her the perfect mark. I’m sure they knew she had weed on her for years but snatched her up because they could use it against the US.

If they gave a damn they would've pulled diplomatic strings from the start -if she be white!. She's just a useful/useless political tool as far as they are concerned. Russia has the same mindset because they are just as racist so don't give a damn either.
Yeah she's black but we need to set a precedent of not sticking our necks out for self hating sellout off code negroes especially when we have more pressing priorities a foot. Let it be a painful warning to those who wilfully turn their backs on the group!

Yup, if it was some white chick, or white person period, they would be all over that shit and would have had them back by now.

I think what could happen, is that Russia will request more prisoners be returned on their end for her. I heard there was another one from the US that they were trying to bring home as well but forgot who it was. I think it was a reporter, could be wrong.

And Russia will get their way too, they'll request a bunch of people in return, and we'll get Griner and that reporter. I bet Russia would be like that.

I am just sick of seeing our people be used as pawns and political chess pieces for a bunch of old white farts who are destroying countries. They will not be around to see and live through the damages. We need age limits for government officials for this reason.

Isn't it something like 50% too? Like Hispanics have a bigger population in this country yet they have smaller numbers in prison even though they have more gang violence, more illegal activity, and are constantly flooding our border. They should be the ones mostly populating g prisons when you think about it. But they are protected by politicians for the same reason... cheap or free labor.
