GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA is a popular short-hand sweeping the internet that means "Get your Black ass in the G*d damn house right now before I beat your motherf*****g ass". While we can laugh about it now, the phrase struck fear in the hearts and minds of many Black children both past and present across the United States.

It's important to note that while most Black parents can translate the phrase as well as their children, we typically do not use as many expletives. In fact, most Black American parents use GYBITHRN with "B" representing "butt" and at times will escalate to GYAITHRN if urgency is required. We will translate both of these terms later on in the piece for those who are having a hard time deciphering their meaning.

When Do Black American Parents Use the Phrase GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA?

As stated in the introduction, most Black American parents do not speak to their children in this fashion. However, variants such as GYBITHRN would be used in situations where the child was outside engaging in mischief or disregarding the rules. It could also be used in situations where the streets lights were coming on but the child did not automatically come into the house.

Hanging out with friends while this forceful command rang through the air was sure to make you the laughing stock amongst friend and foe for the rest of the week.

You Never Wanted to Hear GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA From Dad

If your Dad ever uttered this phrase or anything similar you were most certainly going to get a spanking. In most cases, it meant that Mom gave the directive earlier but for whatever reason you decided to be non-compliant therefore an escalation of force is required. When you heard your father's bassy voice traverse the neighborhood like a Lion's roar you knew it was going to be a long night.

The walk of shame to the house with your head down and hoodie on felt like a walk down death row. Unfortunately there were no Governors and no pardons...just you, the Wardens and the hope that it'd be over soon. Black parents can translate GYBAIT and the belt into some sweet the James Brown footwork! You will go from "I'm Black and I'm Proud" to "Man in the Glass" in 60 seconds flat.

We all have our stories and for now I'll be taking mine to my sarcophagus my Negus.

Only Ghetto and Degenerate Parents Say GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA

Many articles make the claim that only Black parents say this phrase but that's inaccurate...only Black parents who are ghetto and degenerate speak to their children in such a fashion. For one, crass language lacks taste, class, and creates the reality for children that such language is acceptable.

Black parents can translate much more than crass meme-able language and it's important that the example is set at home. The worst thing we can do to our children is raise them in a world that is different than what they expected.

Healthy Alternatives to GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA

If you had parents who spoke to you in this fashion, you do not have to perpetuate the cycle. Here are some more healthy alternatives that parents can use to communicate the same message sans the derogatory and damaging language. Repeat after me Black parents can translate:
  • GYBITHRTMBITGD - Get your butt in the house right this minute before it goes down
  • GYAITHRNBYGAS - Get your ass in the house right now before you get a spanking
  • GIHNBITOMB - Get in here now before I take off my belt
Not only Black people can use these terms, all parents can and should because we've all been compelled to yell and curse at our children at one point or another. Next time some says "translate this gybaitgdhrnbibymfa" make sure you provide them the more healthy alternatives.

Is it True That Only Black Parents Say GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA?

While it is safe to assume that only Black parents refer to their children as "Black", the subtext of the phrase is universal. Across the world are parents that have at one time or another demanded their children come into the house or else face harsh consequences. Some use curse words, some use bribes, some use niceties but in the end that child needs to get in the house immediately.

So it may be true that only Black parents say it in this exact form but the same message is communicated to children worldwide by parents of all ages, cultures, and nationalities.

Is It True That Only Black Parents Can Translate GYBAITGDHRNBIBYMFA

While it is a cool meme and it's fun to pretend as if it's something that only Black parents can translate, it's nothing more than social media hoopla. All cultures have terms that only individuals belonging to the group can translate. Only Black parents can translate the phrase because we belong to the cultural group that would be more inclined to use that type of phraseology.
