The 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is today, and it still feels like it happened just the other day. I remember going to school that Tuesday, I was in 6th grade. I remember sitting there most of the day, watching the news coverage of the towers, and watching as they fell. It was a surreal experience and one I still can't believe I witnessed. Even if it was just on tv.

I don't think we did much that day in school. I don't think they cancelled school or anything either, because I believe I remember sitting in school most of the day. But, part of me is remembering going home a bit early.

I remember being home later and still watching the news unfold. The cleanup, the search for survivors and more. I still can't believe something of this magnitude happened to begin with.

What are your memories of that day? Were any of you near the world trade centers when this happened?

Oh damn, I was in 3rd grade I think. I remember my teacher coming in and saying school was being let out because of a terrorist attack on US soil. That's all my teacher said at the time. But when I got home and saw my mom was watching the news, I checked it out and witnessed what had happened for the first time. It must have aired the attach and towers falling all day long. It felt like the news showed it every day for a month or more.

It didn't hit me as much as a kid, because being in 3rd grade, you don't fully grasp the situation. But each year that passed and I learned more and more, I realized I witnessed one of the world's worst tragedies.

I was in the 10th grade, in algebra class, and the teacher put it on the TV. To be honest, I had no idea what the twin towers were so I was like.

I was too young to remember 9/11. I was born in 2000, so was 1 when it happened. Weird to think it's been 20 years since. I remember hearing about it years later on tv during the 10th anniversary I think. That's when I really kinda paid attention to it all.

I can't believe it happened. You never expect to see something of that magnitude happening.

I was in health class. I can't remember what grade it was. I just remember the announcement, my teacher putting on the TV, and damn near in tears at what she was seeing. We were allowed to go home that day so I went home. I ended up meeting up with my cousin. I really didn't think anything of it. It didn't really seem to hit me because I was young enough for it not to register.

I remember a week after it happened, and my music teacher telling us one of his friends had died in the attacks. I remember skipping school that day, not because of the attacks. I was not feeling good, so I told my mom and she let me stay home.

I turned on the tv soon after and watched everything unfold. I saw it as it happened on the Today show, with they announcing what had happened pretty much right as it did. I was freaking out, because I at first thought this would result in soldiers from other countries coming in and killing us. I was super paranoid I'd also die that day somehow. Part of me thought more planes would be hijacked and they'd fly into residential areas killing more people.

It was messed up. I remember the guy who was falling out of one of the buildings. I don't think they ever identified who that man was either.

…as an American yes, but the US Military subjects people in other countries to this type of stuff all the time.

There are so many folks who think the powers that be had a hand in the attacks and not the Arabs who they claimed did it.

I was very, very sad for anyone that was very young. I thought that the America as we know it would be forever changed and terrorist attacks would be a way of life like it is in some countries.

You ever see those post apocalyptic movies where the kids only knew the effed world? Not to that degree but something like that.
