I think if it was made it would be huge. Black Panther resonated massively. Jason Black ('Race War', '7am') and Tariq Nasheed (Hidden Colors series) crowd funded movies that were about basic black issues and showed it to capacity filled independent theaters across the country. These movies were funded solely by black people and were hugely successful given the size and scope of them.
A traditional black story would be even bigger. One of the main problems is that blacks in Hollywood are addicted to white validation and they refuse to work with each other. There is plenty of money and talent to make a top of the line movie. Not enough of them want to do it.
When black entertainers come together on something its always big (The Kings of Comedy tour for example years ago). Tyler Perry was working with Oprah and had some sort of hissy fit with her or whatever. I'm happy for his studios and its a perfect venue to make such a movie. As of now it won't get done.
One of my fave black movies is 'Boomerang', old skool joint.
