Not true. The Roman Empire literally wrote the story to keep the Empire from splitting up. There were pivotal people like Arius and Nestor who had opinions that were causing dissent and the government had to settle it via an ecumenical council.

The Council of Chalcedon created the trinity which caused the African churches to splinter off and create non-chalcedonian Christianity. The council of Nicaea determined that Jesus was divine.

The council of Chalcedon and council of Nicaea are two pivotal points where the Roman Empire changed the story of Jesus.
