To me, this is so disrespectful. The sculpture looks sexual from most angles. If they are not going to give us reparations they need to just leave our leaders names out of their mouth.

When I saw it I thought it was cunninlingus and I’m not even attempting to be perverted. I think it was done on purpose.
And of course they'll try to gaslight us and others into thinking that we are the real perverts projecting our perversion onto people and things just for "looking too deep into it" and having these sort of thoughts cross our minds when we see stuff life this. I didn’t know what the hell I was looking at. I didn't know if it was 2 girls scissoring, a pair of spread out legs and buttocks with hands as feet grabbing someone's thigh, 2 arms with 2 hands carrying a giant yam, or a mutant creature from Ripley's "Believe It or Not" museum. When I see this "statue", I immediately see and think of sex, body parts, and weird innuendo going on, not the legendary icon Martin Luther King Jr.

This seems low-key like some bullshit Kanye West would come up with while thinking it's "revolutionary genius."

This is a picture of Hank Willis Thomas, the Black artist who created this monstrosity.

This is not a wholesome statue of Martin Luther King Jr, our honorable freedom fighter. Just Black body parts. Absolute blasphemy. This is why I don't like when politicians, activists, and others refer to Black people as "Black bodies" even if some of them are well-meaning. We are more than our damn bodies, we are sentient human beings and we are the original human beings. This (un)intentional way of dehumanizing and fetishizing us by claiming we are "Black bodies" leads to results such as this.

How the hell do you erase and leave out the face of MLK and his whole body and only use his 2 body parts of MLK and the person he was hugging? This reminds me of "the Delectable Negro" but just with chopped arms and hands only. It's nothing but whitewashed, revisionist, MLK porn in physical, sensual form for the all non-Blacks, racists, vultures, Rachel Dolezals, wiggers, chiggers, sambos, and tapdancers to fetishize, touch and feel on, and form kumbaya circles around to feel better about themselves.

I agree it looks awkward weird inappropriate and irrelevant. Two arms embracing? You couldn't do their faces side by side or back to back? Or do a statue where they are standing with an one arm wrapped around the other while they wave their free arm? Just... So lazy and insulting

He’s either Black American LGBT or from some place conquered by Britain.

Season 1 Lol GIF by NBC
His parents are ADOS / FBA / Freedmen, so this is one of our off-code FBA/ADOS fellas.

"Hank Willis Thomas was born in 1976 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Hank Thomas, a jazz musician, and Deborah Willis, artist, photographer, curator and educator.[2] Thomas attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts as a Museum Studies student.[3]"

I do think he is LGBTQ though and he is on that kumbaya "we are all one", "all is forgiven" BS heavy like that disgraceful tapdancer Christian Cooper is. He sounds like the type of Black dude to apologize on the behalf of white people for enslaving us. The type of dude to get harassed by a racist Karen or get his ass beat in Selma and then want to hug it out with his oppressors afterwards. The type to view MLK through whitewashed lenses and say, "We don't need reparations, just an apology. All is well."

We need to find out who paid him to do it, and flood his timeline on whatever social media he has. His name needs to be in the streets for this one. Mans got some explaining to do.
"The $10 million, bronze, 20-foot tall and 40-foot wide sculpture is the largest monument in the country dedicated to racial equity."

This is not reparations. This is not racial equity. And this will not and will never close the racial wealth gap. This sculpture is not a tangible. I can't eat and feed my family a sculpture. is a grand insult and downright disrespectful.

"Efforts to establish the 20-foot-high and 40-foot-wide bronze sculpture recognizing the time the Kings spent in Boston began five years ago and included a public process for selecting the artist to create the monument. Ultimately, the world-renowned conceptual artist Hank Willis Thomas was selected with design firm MASS Design Group to create the memorial and surrounding plaza."

While the MASS Design Group team has whites, it is rather diverse.
Diversity and lack thereof doesn't automatically equate to good.

"Imari Paris Jeffries, executive director of EmbraceBoston, the organization behind the memorial, noted the significance of the sculpture's placement at the Boston Common, America’s oldest public park and a high-traffic area with millions of city residents and visitors walking its paths every year."

"The memorial was the result of a public-private partnership initiated by entrepreneur Paul English, who established the fund at the Boston Foundation and co-chaired the project with Rev. Liz Walker and Rev. Jeffrey Brown. The City of Boston and Embrace Boston convened an Art Committee made up of many of Boston’s cultural leaders to begin the artist selection and design process for the memorial. The Committee was co-chaired by Barry Gaither, Director and Curator of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists and Special Consultant at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and Karin Goodfellow, Director of Public Art for the City of Boston. The Boston Art Commission voted to approve the final design of the memorial in the spring of 2021."

Many hands where involved with this project and truth be told, everyone involved is complicit in this mess.

I kind of see the resemblance, but why not make an actual statue recreating the whole image? It just looks like a jumbled mess with just the arms. Half the people who see it without any context would probably be confused about what they're seeing. And most will probably think it looks like two hands holding a dick.

    At least from this angle:
They always do some degenerate BS in the name of honoring MLK. The statue looks gross from different angles and I think the artist did it on purpose. View attachment 6385
From this angle it doesn't look as creepy, it sort of fits the message of love where it looks like a heart. I would have preferred them just recreating the photo by including them though, like the full photo and not this weird symbolism where it doesn't look right.

Not sure why they chose to go in this direction. It doesn't look right at all. I can see they're trying to do some symbolic thing, but they should've known this would have been pointed out, and I can see it being meemed to hell and back.

    What were they thinking?
They spent 10 million on this. Imagine if instead, they took that 10 million and helped out the black families in Boston.

This is a joke. It is an ugly sculpture that doesn't represent MLK, it mocks him if anything.
    $10 million? snoopdisappointment
