Many areas, Florida number one of all, have invasive species that are destroying the ecology.

There an estimated 300k Burmese pythons in Florida. Over 20,000 giant Iquanas are in Florida. 79,000 Tegu lizards were imported in America but no one knows how many have escaped into the wild. But there are 1000s .

There are an estimated 9 million feral, wild hogs in 40 states in America.

None of these animals are native to America. How did they get here? White folks. The pythons and iguanas initially as pets that got released. There are also all kinds of animals, reptiles, plants, amphibians, a long list that are not native to America that were brought to America by white folks, sometimes accidentally on shipping containers that weren't properly screened.

It's ticking time bomb. Florida is f*cked. The pythons have eliminated many domestic animals. The iquanas are huge and everywhere and burrow wholes that have severely damaged roads, bridges, sewage pipelines.

Some of these could mess up the ecology so bad in time, we may not be able to live in some parts of America.

White folks in Australia brought over 28 rabbits over a hundred years ago and now they have an estimated 200 million wild rabbits causing havoc.

and 1-5 million feral cats look just like a regular cat but these can't be domesticated ever again.

Truly amazing article and although it is sad, it's a lucrative business which my son is endeavoring on as an entrepreneur. He has an organization that he has started up Criter Gitters of Key West It is landscaping and wildlife rescue/ removal service... My brother also assist in the python round up once a year which makes pretty good money doing in the Everglades...

No, but have family all over the state and have been there countless times. I've heard of people (all white) who get paid to reduce the iquana population at certain businesses like golf courses. So, I'm happy to hear some of us are getting into that business, not that it will help reduce the numbers of the invasive reptiles.

Is this issue part of the political debate and if so, what are the proposals?

It's amazing to hear that your son is getting into business for himself. We need that entrepreneurial ambition more than ever. Kudos to you for fostering that type of activity in your household. I definitely wouldn't want to remove a python from my residence but would if I had to.

Great post and I think people overlook how symbiotic of a relationship all of nature has. When one link in the chain is destroyed it all starts to fall apart. Maybe it may be able to sustain with the changes but it's not guaranteed. For instance, the snakes could be killing species that keep certain insects populations low which allows the fauna to grow. With out the regulating species there you can see spikes in insect populations that are feasting on the flora at will. Now you have certain flora dying off which could let's say have an impact on bees. If the bees die then so goes everything. I'm making this all up but it's not a good look at all.

The ecological harm caused by Irresponsible & Arrogant A$$ WS in the state of Florida is devastating. Pets released into the wild when they no longer have a fondness for those creatures. And that Asian buffer class whom I believe is responsible for that crazy ass “walk on land” fish that was first introduced into Florida waterways and now that monstrosity has emerged in numerous areas far removed from Florida. WS & their flunkies fv<k up everything.🤮
