Which do you prefer?

MacOS is superior in most ways.

No DLLs
No Registry
No need to defrag

Linux lol

But of the two, Windows. That is just what I grew up knowing and I have tried using Mac and just didn't like it. Feels too strapped down and all their programs are ridiculously expensive with limited free alternatives in open software.

Every OS had a "mechanism" that can be used like a registry. In Linux it's called /etc/fstab

The nomenclature changes because of marketing and branding.

Jay is a cool brother and smarter than I am. Cut him some slack. He's an Apple fanboy and I give him shit but he knows computers well enough to go back and forth with me and I have a Masters in computer science.

If I exclude Windows 10 and Windows 11, then I would say Microsoft is best for me and it is so convenient to work on Windows as we have more freedom and more software available specially for Developers.

It's been Windows for me ever since I started making use of PC's 💻. I have already upgraded to Windows 11 and I'm really enjoying the hell out of it.
