Having white friends who 'acted' black

Did you guys ever have white friends growing up who often tried to act black? I knew this kid named Jeff, huge fan of the Lakers and Kobe Bryant. We would hang out often to watch basketball. I also went over there because I had a crush on his sister at the time. Anyway that's not the point. He tried so hard to act black. He would ham it up with us, acting like he was one of us. I didn't much care at the time, because he was so dumb. But looking back I do cringe at the idea of him acting like that. He was a good dude to me though, even though he was cringe city all the damn time.

But that's why I bring this question up. Have you guys ever had any white friends who tried to act black? I'm all for white people sharing interest in our culture and what we enjoy, but they gotta cool the shit with acting black. Everytime I see it, I am reminded of that shitty jamie kennedy movie where he thinks he's a rapper. I forgot what it was called, but I think you get the point.

Dating someone you work with

Have you ever dated someone you worked with? I did when I worked at Wal-mart back in my teen years and young adult life. I met a girl there and we ended up dating for a few months. Then we broke up. We had to work together after that point, and that wasn't fun. I was in love with her for a while after we broke up, so it was rough working with her, especially when she was talking about a guy she met. Right in front of me too. :(

But yeah, after I finally moved on from Wal-Mart, I never dated anyone from work again. But what about you? Would you work with someone you dated previously?

Anyone have any experience with moving?

I mentioned before that I am hoping to get my own spot and put money down on a house next year. I have been looking into options and talking to some real estate people. I don't have a lot of stuff but looking around, I feel like I am going to be so overwhelmed when I move. Does anyone have experience with moving a full place worth of stuff to a new spot? I am looking for some tips, tricks, and hacks to make the process easier.

Priced out (The New Gentrified Portland | Documentary Clip)

I'm about 7 blocks from the street they show in this clip, my area before these invaders came, you could be in my neighborhood for days and days and never see a white person, they would never come to North or N.E. Portland most of the blacks in the 30's and 40's( in Oregon) were pretty much forced into these areas, we stayed and built huge communities. in the early 80's my dad peeped what was going on and told me "white people want this area back, and they'll get it" he told me that when he seen our childhood barber shop sold and turned into a coffee shop. 30+ years later his prediction came true, now in Portland Black People are less than 1% of the population.

I hate driving around my neighborhood, everything I remember growing up is gone. it's like the memory of my city has been erased.

Anyone hear about Bubba Wallace?

I just saw something about it but I guess Bubba Wallace won his first nascar race yesterday. I wondered what he would end up doing after all of that went down last year with him. We didn't have this forum at the time to talk about it lol but what did you think of what happened with him?

Bago - Deja Vu

Anyone here heard of Bago? She's an artist who does a mix of pop and r&b. I listened to her first album, Sunday's Best years ago, I highly recommend it. She also dropped another album called Loyal Forever, but she kinda disappeared from the internet as she changed his socials to some jewelry site or something. Anyway, I noticed she released a new track recently and I've been hooked on it since. I don't understand why she hasn't become more popular, her music is great.

Her new song is below. What do you guys think?

Black Success & Uplifting Stories

I thought this would be a good thread to have. A way to share news stories and talk about people who have done some pretty amazing things.

I am ashamed to say I am only just hearing about the work of Mashudu Tshifularo. I want to start with him for this thread.

fdg2.jpeg
In 2019, Dr Tshifularo and his team successfully pioneered a transplant of a patient’s middle ear to cure his deafness, making it the first in the world. The patient was a 35-year- old man who suffered hearing loss as a result of a car accident that damaged his inner ear. Using 3D technology, he was able to recreate the bones -the hammer, anvil , stirrup, and the ossicles that make up the inner ear, replacing the damaged ones.

The operation was performed by Professor Mashudu Tshifularo and his team from the University of Pretoria Faculty of Health at the Steve Biko Academic hospital in Pretoria on March 13, 2019. The surgery was successfully completed in one and a half hours and was completed through endoscopy, a less invasive method of surgery.
You can read more about him and his success here.

LA port backup grows to record 62 ships as supply chain crunch worsens

Cargo-containers-010 copy.png
California’s traffic jams are legendary, but this is one for the books.

A record 62 cargo ships are waiting to dock at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and are stuck floating off the coast amid a serious supply chain crunch that could mean fewer toys under the Christmas tree this year.

The problem reflects a combination of growing cargo volumes, a labor shortage and COVID-related safety measures that slow the handling of each ship. About one-third of all imports into the U.S. pass through the ports each year.

The Port of Long Beach has broken monthly records for how much cargo has passed through for 12 of the last 13 months, with 32 percent more cargo processed this year than in 2020, according to the trade publication Supply Chain Dive. Backups at the port as cargo ships wait for berths have been common all year, and have only grown as the peak fall shipping season arrived.
